Exhibit to open Feb. 13 at Kent State University
“They Led the Way” tells the stories of eight students who desegregated the schools in Tallahassee, Fla., 50 years ago. It opens on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Franklin Hall at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication will host an opening reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the FirstEnergy Auditorium of Franklin Hall. The exhibit is the work of JMC Professor Ann Schierhorn and features photography by David LaBelle, director of JMC’s photojournalism program.
The evening will feature remarks by Mahlon C. Rhaney, Jr., one of the Florida students, as well as Schierhorn, LaBelle, and JMC Director Thor Wasbotten.
Premiere in Tallahassee, Fla.
The exhibition premiered in September 2013 at the John G. Riley Center/Museum of African American History and Culture in Tallahassee, where it will be open through March 2014. The Riley Museum collaborated on this project.
